Our Story
North Georgia Land and Timber (NGLT) was born out of a desire to aid Georgia landowners in achieving their goals of maximizing the value of their land and timber holdings. It started in the early 60s when W.C. “Bill” Smith began managing more than 20,000 acres of timberland in central and north Georgia to feed Mose Gordon’s Sawmill in Commerce. As time went by, lumber demand from small mills diminished, and large company mills began to take over the market. In 1967 Bill Smith opened the woodyard in Commerce, W.C. Smith Pulpwood Co., and began buying all types of merchantable timber from local loggers while also managing timberland for landowners across northeast Georgia. As northeast Georgia grew, the company began working with landowners to prepare land to go on the market by harvesting in a way that maximized profits and added aesthetic value to tracts in preparation for sale. We approach real estate with the same hard work and dedication to clients that made us successful in the timber business. For the last 60 years, we have made connections with hard working Georgians that need advice and service from people they know and trust. Real estate in Georgia is changing at a rapid pace, and NGLT is here to help you put together real estate sales or investments that make sense for you. We look forward to working with you.
